Mayur extends coal precinct to 200km with further exploration in Gulf Province with MRA
16 June 2016
Mayurs Head of Exploration, Mr Tom Charlton, recently conducted an extensive coal mapping programme in Gulf province. A field trip was undertaken that also involved a representative from the MRAs geological survey division to assist their understanding of PNGs coal deposits.
The work undertaken included reconnaissance and identified various coal occurrences at surface up the rivers and creeks of southern Gulf Province. Mr Charlton commented ‘this field mapping has enabled us to extend the strike of observable coal at surface to 200km, stretching from the Gulf Coast west of Kerema up to the north west along the Shu Measures geological formation, this is particularly exciting and will lead to further targeted exploration in the future’
